For many years, the food packaging industry has relied on a plastic coating of Polyethylene (PE) to provide moisture resistance for paper cups and paper boxes. However, this coating is also one of the major obstacles to recyclability and contributes to increasing plastic waste in the environment.
With a desire to offer a more sustainable solution, Green Ecosystem has begun a journey researching a water-based coating technology. This is a long and challenging process, from material selection, testing hundreds of formulas to evaluating moisture resistance, durability, and safety when in contact with food.
Not all experiments yield results as hoped. Creating a coating that can replace PE while maintaining performance is a significant challenge, requiring patience and continuous improvement of the technology.
Up to now, Green Ecosystem has gradually improved the water-based coating solution, enabling the production of paper packaging products with effective moisture resistance, reduced microplastic shedding, and support for recycling within the current paper system.
We believe that every step forward in technology not only brings value to the business but also contributes to building a paper packaging industry that grows in a greener, more sustainable direction and aligns with the circular economy trend in the future.
